Pixel has made a change to lock screen notifications – here’s how to adjust it

The Pixel 10 hit store shelves with Android 16 QPR1, which alters how lock screen notifications are presented. If you’re not used to it, the sudden change can be a little disorienting. The new “compact” and “full” views are now available, and this guide will help you choose the right one.

By default, Google’s new Android build displays notifications on the lock screen in its new compact view. The presentation only shows one notification, with others only represented by app icons in the overflow menu below. Alerts that are viewed get sent to that secondary compact section.

For some, the new display method is a no-go. Some prefer multiple notifications to be visible on the Pixel’s lock screen, not simply one in full view and app icons depicting the others. That’s where the full list option comes into play.

“Full list” is the only other display method for alerts on the Pixel’s lock screen. Notifications are shown in order of receipt and in cards. They can be expanded, but they take up a fair amount of space.

There are further options available, too. With the “show seen notifications” toggle off, notifications that are viewed with no action taken — e.g., unlocking the phone — are hidden until the phone is unlocked. “Show silent notifications” will display alerts from the apps that are set automatically or manually as silent, which will show up in that overflow menu to keep the shade decluttered.

Here’s how to set your preferred view:

  1. On your Pixel running Android 16 QPR1 or later, head to settings.
  2. Find and tap Notifications.
  3. Hit Notifications on lock screen.
  4. Choose between Compact View and Full list.

You can always switch back, but full view might be the best option for some. In that mode, all Pixel lock screen notifications are visible at all times, as opposed to compact, where only one appears at the top. It’s all a matter of preference, but that makes Android what it is!
