Verizon reveals two never before seen Pixel Live Cases, ‘Earth’ and ‘Trends’

Google’s “Live Cases” debuted on the Nexus 5X and 6P, since expanding to the Pixel and Pixel XL. To date, we’ve seen three main options for these customizable cases ─ photos, places, and artwork. However, it seems Verizon has jumped the gun a bit, showing us two new Live Cases that have yet to be announced.

Google now says that updates for Verizon and unlocked Pixels will be released ‘simultaneously’

Last week we broke the story that Verizon would be managing system updates for Pixel devices that it sells, and the immediate assumption was that Verizon would delay those updates — not an unreasonable assumption at all based on the carrier’s track record. Now, less than a week later, Verizon has contacted ArsTechnica to state that it won’t be delaying updates. Good right?

Comment: Google, please stop advertising the Pixel as ‘only on Verizon’ because it’s incredibly misleading

Only two days have passed since Google officially announced the new Pixel smartphone, but it isn’t holding back at all in advertising these new devices. Already we’ve seen numerous online ads, some on our site, and even full page (and super expensive) USA Today ads, not to mention all the TV spots. However, there’s something wrong…

Google confirms that Verizon will handle system updates for Pixels it sells, but Google will still manage security updates

One of the biggest questions surrounding Google’s Pixel that we’ve noticed people asking about is how its Verizon exclusivity will affect it. Being the only carrier Google has partnered with, we would hope that the company had pulled some strings with Verizon to keep tight control over devices sold through the carrier. But this is Verizon we’re talking about…

Galaxy Note 7 sales to resume at T-Mobile on October 5th

Shortly after Samsung and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced an official recall on all Galaxy Note 7 handsets, the four major US carriers immediately stopped selling the phone.

Now, with over a million customers having exchanged their faulty units, Verizon and Sprint have both once again begun selling the phone while T-Mobile has announced that it plans to as well…

Google Pixel Verizon Leak

We’re less than a day away from Google’s October 4th event, and it has been Pixel leaks galore. Over the weekend we saw Canadian carrier Bell leak renders of the Pixel and Pixel XL in black and white followed by Carphone Warehouse leaking promotional material. Now, a little over 12 hours away from the start of the event, Verizon has the Pixel and Pixel XL listed on its website. The best part? Verizon has also unofficially confirmed the highly-anticipated blue model.

Just last night LG finally revealed the all-new LG V20. US carriers respond to the Galaxy Note 7 recall, here’s what you need to know

galaxy_note7_verizon_1

Just this morning Samsung officially issued a worldwide recall of every Galaxy Note 7 on the market. Why? Due to an issue with the battery, some users were having their devices explode (mainly while charging). Samsung noted 35 cases of this issue, and that was more than enough to issue a full recall. Owners of unlocked devices will be able to get a replacement device directly from Samsung, however with carriers, things get slightly more complicated.

Verizon isn’t trying to charge customers $5 a month for unlimited 2G data anymore

Over the past few years T-Mobile has done a lot to change the industry, and despite some missteps, the changes it has implemented have changed other carriers for the better. One of the best examples of this is unlimited 2G data. Instead of getting a set amount of data followed by overage fees, customers get a limited amount of high-speed data, followed by unlimited data at considerably slower 2G speeds.

Verizon wanted to install more bloatware on phones, would have received $1-$2 per device for each app

One of the biggest downsides of buying a carrier branded Android smartphone is bloatware. Regardless of the carrier, you’re going to find at least a handful of added applications on your device which, in most cases, you can’t delete. Verizon isn’t always the worst in this area, but things could have been much worse if an idea from the company had come to fruition.

Samsung finally took the wraps off its new Galaxy Note 7 earlier today, but as usual, pre-ordering the phone isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. As mentioned by Samsung earlier today, the Note 7 going to be available on all four of the major US carriers, but each one is going about pre-orders and special offers in a different way. Lenovo-owned Motorola just launched its latest flagships, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. For now they’re only available as “Droid Edition” phones, exclusively on Verizon and — of course — packing a picking of Verizon’s bloatware apps.

Verizon to start pushing highest unlimited data users to tiered plans or cutting them off

Verizon has never had a good relationship with the few customers still holding on to its unlimited data plans. The company has been trying over the past few years to get those customers to upgrade to newer, restricted plans, but despite its best efforts, many customer still remain on these plans. For some users this is fine, but Verizon is sick and tired of those using “an extraordinary amount of data” on their unlimited plans and will soon disconnect those users.

Pricing for Moto Mods revealed, starting at $69 all the way up to $299

While Lenovo’s new Moto Z is grabbing attention for a lot of reasons, the main selling point for this new device is its design supporting modular backplates. With a few strong magnets and some pins, a special module called a ‘Moto Mod‘ can instantly expand the capabilities of the phone. At Tech World last week, the company showed off several mods that would be available at launch. It didn’t, however, reveal pricing. Thankfully, Verizon has.

PSA: Verizon OTA for Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge adds ‘DT Ignite’ service that installs carrier bloatware

Verizon released an OTA update today for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge that adds some minor features and fixes several bugs. However, users have noticed that the update also installs a service called DT Ignite that allows carriers to quietly install bloatware. This addition went unmentioned in Verizon’s release notes, but fortunately is easy to disable.

Android Marshmallow update for Motorola’s Droid Turbo 2 said to be ‘in full deployment’

Albeit having been released months ago, much like all of its predecessors, the latest Android version, Marshmallow, is still running only on a relatively small number of devices. Much of it can be attributed to carriers and third party manufacturers, which often take a lot of time to properly re-skin, release certifications, and eventually give the green light to updates.

Fortunately for Verizon customers, however, it looks like Google‘s latest software is beginning its rollout for the Droid Turbo 2. In a note released on Tuesday on Google Plus, Motorola‘s David Schuster confirmed that the upgrade is in “full deployment”…
