A new report from Bloomberg this evening explains that Verizon is looking to partner with either Google or Apple when it rolls 5G service to homes later this year. Through the partnership, Verizon would be able to provide television service to its subscribers, according to the report.

According to a report out of Reuters this morning, US lawmakers are urging AT&T to further cut commercial ties with China-based smartphone manufacturer Huawei. The report comes on the heels of one of the biggest stories of CES 2018 — namely, that AT&T cancelled plans to sell the company’s Mate 10 flagship at the last minute amid political pressure.
Huawei has been attempting to break into the US for a while now, and Verizon has been its primary target. Now that its deal with AT&T has been scrapped, it seems that Verizon is under similar pressure to cut ties with the Chinese OEM.

After throttling video streaming to as little as 480p on its so-called unlimited plan back in August, Verizon is now offering access to 4K streaming – but at a price. Access costs $10 per month per user.
Update #2: The Verge has received the following statement from Google, who says it will reimburse those who paid the premium:
“This was an error, which is now fixed,” a spokesperson writes, adding “Sorry for any confusion. We’ll be reaching out shortly to reimburse those impacted.”
Update: Some report different experiences with Google’s pop-up shop, saying the company changed policy throughout the day. It sounds very much like a “your mileage may vary” situation.
Since the official release of Android Oreo, a number of Pixel users have been reporting that they have stopped receiving text messages. The bug allows them to send messages, but no incoming texts have been coming through. Thankfully, Google is aware of the bug and is working on a fix…
Verizon just launched its LTE-enabled Wear24 smartwatch earlier this year — in May, to be exact. Now, just about 4 months after its launch, the Android Wear-powered offering has been discontinued.
The Essential Phone saw a few issues at launch, but one that caught many off-guard was an issue with Verizon Wireless. At launch, the device still wasn’t certified for use on the network, but now that issue has been resolved.
