Project Fi

Project Fi revealed last week that a mid-tier device was soon coming to Google’s MVNO service. In line with our previous reporting, the Moto X4 was quickly leaked as the phone in question. The latest rumors today offer new specs about the Lenovo device that contradict earlier ones.
In an interesting tweet yesterday, Project Fi confirmed that a mid-tier phone coming later this year would support the Google MVNO service. Back in April, we reported on this and noted that the launch device in question could be a 2017 Moto X. VentureBeat is now corroborating this information and providing a more precise release date.
Project Fi on Twitter made a very interesting announcement this morning when asked about cheaper devices for the MVNO: a “new Fi-compatible device”. Coming at a “mid-tier price,” the unknown device will be available later this year. Interestingly, this piece of news matches our previous reporting on the launch of a new Fi-compatible partner device with support for the Google network.
Project Fi is seeing an enterprise-focused expansion today as it opens sign-ups to G Suite accounts. Until today, Google’s MVNO service was only available for regular consumers with an @gmail.com address.
Back in October, Project Fi added group plans that are ideal for families and feature straightforward management tools. The Google MVNO is now simplifying the payment portion of shared plans with automatic share calculation, reminders, and simple repayment options.
Google’s Pixel is still one of the best phones on the market today, but getting your hands on it has been nearly impossible for quite some time. That’s led to some very high resale value on outlets like Swappa, and it seems that some people have been taking advantage of that. Now, not those sellers, but the buyers who purchased the phones are seeing the consequences.
Google started giving away free stuff in airport vending machines last December, and now it appears the company is expanding this perk to more airports throughout the country. San Jose’s airport was one of the first, but now it appears that you’ll be able to find a Fi “Travel Trolley” in 9 different airports.
Resulting in quality and usability improvements, Voice over LTE allows calls to be made and received over data networks. Now, we learn that Google’s Project Fi MVNO is beginning to test VoLTE calling with a subset of subscribers.
Last month, Project Fi launched a referral program as part of their annual holiday gift to subscribers. New and existing subscribers would net a $20 credit that goes towards their Fi bill. According to Google, the program has now been extended indefinitely…
Being a Project Fi subscriber has its perks. If you’re not getting a free $10 Play Store gift card around the holidays, you’re getting access to a referral program that awards you a $20 bill credit. Now, Google is launching yet another perk exclusively for Fi subscribers…
Following the addition of a group plan, Project Fi became a much more attractive service for families and others with multiple lines. To attract more subscribers, Google’s MVNO is launching a Referral Program that rewards new and existing customers with a $20 credit.
Google’s Project Fi MVNO has a habit of sending out a yearly holiday gift to subscribers. Last year, it was a clever phone stand assembled out of Lego bricks and an extra USB-C cable. This year’s gift is virtual in nature and involves an interactive site with hidden Google Play credit.
Following the addition of group plans earlier this month, Project Fi’s companion app now features improved real-time data usage updates. In the past, the Fi app was somewhat delayed listing how much data was used and in notifying users when they surpassed set usage amounts.
Since its launch, Google’s Project Fi network has made some major advances. After dropping invites, Fi has added new carriers and awesome features such as data-only SIMs, but one thing it has always lacked is a family plan. That feature has been highly requested by many users, and according to some snippets of code found within a recent update to the Project Fi app (via Android Police), it may finally be coming…
After a tragic attack in Nice, France, Google has announced tonight that it will be offering free voice calls to the country. These free calls will be available through Google Hangouts (Google Voice) as well as Project Fi. For those in the area, Google will also be pushing Google Now cards with critical updates on the situation.
After making some major improvements to its coverage in the US, Project Fi is turning its focus to international markets with some huge updates today. Starting today Fi customers will have access to faster data speeds worldwide, thanks in part to help from Google’s partnership with European carrier Three.
After announcing the addition early this month, Google has finally enabled support for US Cellular’s network starting today for all users. To “ensure your device is ready to connect,” Google says you should download an update the Project Fi app which is currently rolling out via Google Play.
Google has today officially announced that its MVNO cellular network, Project Fi, has teamed up with US Cellular to add more coverage and better speeds for users on top of the current partnerships with Sprint and T-Mobile.
As of last month, Project Fi no longer requires an invite to signup for Google’s MVNO service. An update to the Project Fi companion app adds a useful widget to keep track of data usage and fixes a bug that inaccurately displayed how much data has been used.
Project Fi launched 10 months ago as an invitation-only MVNO cellular service, and — until now — it usually took at least a few days to get an invite (unless you were lucky enough to get an instant invite given to mark certain occasions). Starting today, Fi has dropped the invitation system and anybody can now sign-up without a wait.
Project Fi will now work on tablets and other compatible data-only devices besides phones. There are no extra fees to add devices to a Fi plan and data still costs $10 for every 1GB you use. That varies from many mainstream carrier plans with charge monthly rates for data access.
Before today, signing up for Project Fi meant waiting several weeks in most cases before being about to sign up for the Mountain View company’s MVNO. At least for today, you can sign up without a waiting period. To celebrate the shipment of the Nexus 5X, Google says it is today giving out instant Project Fi invites to those that sign up for one…

If you’re one of the many excited to get one of Google’s new Nexus devices, but you would rather pay for one over time rather than outright (or if you’re just looking to become a Project Fi subscriber), I have some good news. Although not exactly mentioned in detail today, you can grab either phone from Project Fi on an installment plan…
