LG’s Nexus 5X is coming in three colors: white, black, and mint-ish green

We just saw the Huawei Nexus 6P colors earlier today, and now the same source has shared stock imagery showing the upcoming Nexus 5X from LG. While the white variant was all but confirmed (and a black version easily assumable), this image shows that Google is preparing to launch a green-ish blue color as well — lining up pretty well with previous rumors of a “mint” color.

According to an earlier report out of Android Police citing a “reliable source,” LG’s upcoming “Nexus 5” (which we’ve recently learned is actually called the Nexus 5X), will sport a Snapdragon 808 processor, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 3 GB of RAM, a 2700 mAh battery, support for USB-C, a 12.3-megapixel main camera sensor, and a 5-megapixel front camera.

As is the case with the Huawei Nexus 6P (and the Chromecast 2nd gen. & Chromecast Audio, which we exclusively leaked last week), we’ll know more about Google’s announcements on September 29th.

Information given to Droid-Life by one of its sources claims that the names chosen for the upcoming pure Android phones will be ‘Nexus 5X’ and ‘Nexus 6P’. The first of those is a name we’ve heard before. It was rumored recently that this is the name picked out for the LG-made Nexus smartphone. Nexus 6P is new to us however, and is purportedly the moniker chosen for Huawei’s larger Nexus. Although naming plans could change between now and launch, the site claims this is unlikely since the announcement is expected before the end of this month…

A couple of new photos have popped up on a Korean blog today, purporting to show LG’s upcoming Nexus 5 (X? 2015?). There’s nothing much here that we haven’t seen already, but the blog does claim that the phone will come in a “mint green” color variant. We believe that this is likely just a matter of a photo that needs a bit of color correction, however…

References to ‘Nexus Protect’ appear on the Google Store

While Google is set to announce a new set of Nexus devices at the end of the month, some new references to something called “Nexus Protect” have started appearing on the online Google Store’s web page source code (via Android Police)…

It’s not clear quite yet what Nexus Protect might be, but it’s possible that Google could be preparing to launch an Apple Care or HTC “Uh Oh!”-like program for protecting accidental damage to your Nexus device. That would be interesting, especially considering that Google has been known to sometimes absorb the cost of accidental damage replacements for the Nexus 5 and other devices.

Clearly, Google is implementing some kind of limitation on the phones you’re ordering when purchasing Nexus Protect. As can be seen in the above image — which shows a pop up surfaced thanks to some page source tinkering — you can’t add a phone to your cart unless it has the same “Nexus Protect choice” as other phones currently in your Google Store cart.

While details are definitely a little light at the moment, we’ll probably be hearing more about Nexus Protect at Google’s Nexus event — which is reportedly scheduled for September 29th.

Update: Google has now uploaded the LMY48N (Note: Not M) image for the Nexus Player.

Update 2: Google has now uploaded LYZ28K and LVY48F images for the Nexus 6 on T-Mobile and Project Fi, respectively.

As we told you yesterday, Google is pushing out one of its monthly security updates to the spectrum of still-supported Nexus devices. While you should start seeing the update — with build number LMY48M — showing up on your carrier Nexus devices over-the-air, Google has now uploaded the update to its Nexus factory image page for the Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10…

Bank of America adds fingerprint sign-in support ahead of new Nexus devices

The Bank of America Android app has today been updated with a new capability that further lends credibility to rumors that surround the upcoming Nexus devices. Version 6.4 of the Bank of America app for Android adds support for fingerprint sign-in, as well as several other new features.

It has been rumored recently that LG’s upcoming Nexus 5 model will carry support for a rear fingerprint sensor, a capability that is currently supported on flagship devices from companies like HTC and Samsung. It’s also expected that Huawei’s larger Nexus device will carry support for finger scanning, as well.

Other new features of the Bank of America for Android app include improved appointment scheduling, improved check depositing, and your standard set of bug fixes and improvemenets. The update is live on the Play Store now and the full change log is below:

  • Fingerprint sign-in is now available on a newly designed home screen
  • It’s easier to schedule an appointment with a specialist for help or advice
  • Deposit your checks with confidence. Now you’ll see the digital check image immediately on the confirmation screen.

Of the Nexus announcements scheduled for later this month, the rumored LG Nexus 5 is definitely the one we know more about. A month ago the first full renders leaked, and just a few weeks ago, a photo of the device in the flesh managed to leak out as well. At least a couple publications have confirmed that this physical build is indeed the new Nexus, and we’ve even seen independent reports confirming its specifications as well.

But it’s not over yet, as Android Pit has now come out with images it claims are the new device, and they’re definitely the best look we’ve had yet…

Motorola slashes Nexus 6 to $350 shipped at Amazon ahead of new Nexus announcement

Amazon offers the Unlocked Motorola Nexus 6 32GB in Midnight Blue or Cloud White for $349.99 shipped. That’s $300 off the original list price, $150 less than Best Buy’s current listing, and the lowest we’ve ever seen. The move is likely a clearinghouse before new Nexus devices are revealed on or around September 29th. It is also in response to the newly on sale Moto X which has similar/better specs and a $399 price tag.

The Nexus 6 is still an incredibly solid phone and one of only a few options if you want to play with Andoid M Marshmallow right now.

As we near the September 29 announcement of Google’s new Nexus handsets, the rumors, reports, and speculation just keep building. According to a new report out of Android Authority this morning, the upcoming LG Nexus 5 is going to sport the name “Nexus 5X,” although a “decision on the final name has not been taken yet at Google HQ.” Additionally, the phone is said to start at $400, which is $50 more than the previous Nexus 5 launched in 2013…

According to a report this morning from CNET, Google is planning two unveil two Nexus handset — one from LG, and one from Huawei — at an event scheduled from September 29th. Details of both the smaller “Nexus 5” made by LG and the new “Nexus 6” made by Huawei have been steadily leaking out over the last couple months, and — just as many have suggested — the two phones are slated to made official at the end of this month…

Yesterday the well-known leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer teamed up with uSwitch to leak digital renders of the purported upcoming LG-made Nexus. Today, the two are back with their first look at what could be this year’s flagship Nexus device. As rumored multiple times, this device is expected to be manufactured by Huawei, one of China’s biggest Android OEMs.

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 chip, which has been rumored to be powering the Huawei-made 5.7-inch Nexus due to ship later this year, will come with a new Adreno 530 GPU, says the chipmaker. The new GPU will offer improved battery-life when watching movies or playing graphics-intensive games, and will also offer significantly improved image-processing when taking photos, said Tim Leland, head of Qualcomm’s visual processing group.

Alleged Huawei Nexus prototype/dummy

Well-known leakster, Steve Hemmerstoffer has leaked further information regarding the upcoming purported Nexus devices. Using his OnLeaks account, he shared some detailed specifications an features of both the rumored smaller LG device and larger Huawei-made smartphone.

Information passed to Steve by his sources suggests that both phones will feature front-firing speakers, USB Type-C compatibility and a fingerprint sensor on the back. Although both are rumored to likely feature a metal chassis, the dimensions will be different. LG’s Nexus is purported to measure in at 9.8mm thick, 147mm tall and 73mm wide while the Huawei device is allegedly going to be 8.5mm thick and measure at around 12.5mm taller and 5mm wider than LG’s Pure Google phone.

Huawei Nexus prototype allegedly appears in sketchy leak

We’ve been hearing rumors for some time now that Google will partner with Huawei on its next flagship Nexus device. It may seem like a strange choice of manufacturer, but with its influence in China, Google sees a strong opportunity to piggy-back Huawei’s Chinese success and get its own services adopted there.

We’re supposedly expecting a device with a 5.7-inch QHD screen and Snapdragon 820 processor to be launched alongside a smaller LG-made device (refreshed Nexus 5 perhaps) sometime later this year. Today, a fresh leak has been published showing little detail, but what could be a prototype of the Huawei-made Pure Google device.

If you check out a few of the snapshot images originally taken from a blurry, unclear video, you’ll notice that the design is fairly similar to another Huawei smartphone. Although there are differences, you’ll see much of the design language is the same as the Huawei Ascend Mate 7:

The arrangement of the camera, fingerprint sensor and LED flash units is very similar in both. However, you’ll notice the camera on the supposed Nexus device is round, rather than square (matching the leaked LG Nexus cases). The LED flash is a long pill-shaped component rather than square, but the fingerprint sensor is much the same. Take a look at the original video leaked originally by Steve Hemmerstoffer:

Since the device isn’t powered on at all in the video, it’s hard to say with any certainty whether or not this really is the Nexus being leaked. Or even, if it’s a working prototype. For all we know, it could just be a tested physical dummy unit of a device Huawei is working on. Although, if it is genuine and this is the finished product, let me be the first to say that I’d love that all-black finish on a Nexus device. So dark, and stealthy.

Earlier today, Google announced that it would soon begin improving its security efforts for its Nexus line of devices by rolling out monthly security updates. To go along with that, Google this evening has posted new factory images for seven Nexus devices. The factory images all appear to address the recent security bug that saw “Stagefright” exploited, as well as other fixes.
