Movies Anywhere was one of the unintended casualties faced during Google and Disney’s brief feud throughout October and November, but as promised, both Google Play and YouTube have returned to the movie syncing service.
Google and Disney might’ve reached a deal to return the latter’s channels to YouTube TV nearly two weeks ago, but there was still some unfinished business surrounding the breakup when it came to your personal movie library. Thankfully, on both the purchasing front and the Movies Anywhere front, things should be returning to normal very soon.
Movies Anywhere has been one of the best things to happen to digital movie ownership in quite some time, allowing purchases to sync between a variety of different platforms at no cost. But this week, the Disney-owned service announced that “Screen Pass,” the feature that allowed Movies Anywhere users to share a movie with friends or family, is being shut down.
There’s potential good news for anyone who uses a combination of Windows PC and Android phone/tablet: Microsoft is planning an Android app that allows you to access the Windows Movies & TV service …
Having all of your movies digitally is great because you can watch them almost anywhere. The most significant downside is that until now, you could only watch those videos within the app or service you purchased them through (unless it was a Disney movie). Thankfully, with Movies Anywhere, you can link all of your favorite services together and see all of your digital movies in one place. Here’s how to connect and disconnect your accounts from Movies Anywhere.
Buying movies digitally is a great way to build up a library, but there are a lot of places to buy from. Between Amazon Instant Video, VUDU, Google Play Movies, and iTunes, there are a lot of accounts to keep track of, especially if you are hunting for the best deal on a movie. Today, a joint effort from all of these major digital distributors is going to make buying digital movies a whole lot better.
Back in February, Apple and Disney teamed up on a new app called Movies Anywhere that allowed iOS users to access their library of purchased movies—whether bought on the iTunes Store, DVD, or other media (with the appropriate redemption code in the box).
Today, Disney has launched the same service for Android users. Movies Anywhere owners will now be able to access their movie library featuring titles from Disney, Pixar, and Marvel from any of their devices. Because this is a cross-platform solution, movies previously purchased on the iTunes Store will now be available to users on Android devices, and iOS users will be able to watch Disney movies they’ve purchased from the Google Play Store.
