Play Games on Android is one of Google’s most Material Theme-heavy apps. After adding a dark theme in December, the latest version widely rolling out today has redesigned the settings page and tweaked some options.
Following Gmail earlier this week, the latest G Suite app to get the Google Material Theme is Google Voice. The core navigation and user experience of the VOIP service is unchanged, but this update does provide a clean refresh.

Last April, Google completely revamped Gmail on the desktop web with a focus on machine learning-powered features and other smart functionality. Now available on Gmail for Android, this redesign includes a handful of other changes beyond the Google Material Theme that are welcome carry-overs from the web counterpart.
Many Google apps in recent months have been updated with the company’s Material Theme. The latest is Play Books, with that revamp now beginning to more widely roll out on Android.
Google Drive was one of the first web apps to adopt the Google Material Theme last May and now a similar redesign is rolling out to the core Docs, Sheets, and Slides productivity services on the web, as well as Google Sites.
With the January security patch this week, many noticed that the Google Pixel’s “Check for update” button was working as intended again. Google is now rolling out a redesign to the System update screen that adopts a handful of Material Theme tweaks.
Alongside Chromebooks and related management tools, Google Classroom is one of the company’s entries into the education field. In time for the new school semester, Google Classroom is getting revamped with the Google Material Theme.

Back in September, the Google Material Theme debuted in Google Calendar for Android. Those changes are now available on the web counterpart in the form of updated elements and various other small tweaks throughout.
One of the first places that the Google Material Theme widely rolled out to was the Google Account settings on Android. A similar revamp is now available on the web, with the new design sharing many similarities to mobile, but better optimized to take advantage of the bigger screen real estate.
After rolling out late last month to Google Search on the desktop web, the Google Material Theme is beginning to appear on the mobile counterpart. This similar redesign features modern elements like a pill-shaped search field that is available on both the results page and homepage.
Back in September, Google Search began testing the Google Material Theme on the desktop web. This evening, it is beginning to widely appear for users and features a number of design changes, including a persistent pill-shaped search bar.
In addition to a rebrand and expanded Android and iOS availability, Google Fi yesterday gained the Google Material Theme on mobile and the web. On Android, the general layout and functionality is unchanged, but the new design is particularly whimsical and befitting of the MVNO’s simplicity.
First spotted in October, Google Translate’s Google Material Theme is now widely rolling out on the web. Besides adopting Google’s new look for apps, the site also features a responsive design.
Google Maps in recent months has received a flurry of new features from business messaging to following stores for deals. The latest is a minor tweak to the navigation drawer on Android that adopts the Google Material Theme.
The first wave of Google Material Theme redesigns was for Android clients, with web apps in recent weeks following. After Google Keep Notes last month, Google Photos on the web is now the next major site to be revamped with various Material Theme tweaks.
Back in May, NPR and a consortium of public radio channels acquired Pocket Casts. It comes amid the “golden age of podcasts,” with Google this year entering the field and detailing ambitious audio plans of its own. Pocket Casts 7.0 is entering public beta on Android today with a major overhaul and new features on all platforms.
Following last week’s encouragement that apps adopt dark themes to conserve battery life, Google Contacts is the latest Android client to gain one. In recent weeks, the company has been updating its communication apps, with Google Phone’s dark look already announced and in-development.
Last month, the Google Material Theme came to Google Keep Notes on Android as part of a sizable redesign. The web application followed shortly, with Google continuing to update the mobile client today with more Material Theme tweaks.
Users have long requested a dark theme within apps. With demand only rising due to the inherent brightness of the Google Material Theme, Google’s apps have begun to adopt night modes. Now, the company’s own research can quantify the battery savings involved with darker interfaces.
The Google Material Theme is continually sweeping through the company’s Android apps, with some notable redesigns on the web with Google Keep and soon Contacts. Google Analytics is now the latest service to get some tweaks on desktop.
With Android Go, Google launched optimized ‘Go’ variants for Assistant, Maps, YouTube, and more. One of the more popular applications in the line is Files Go, with Google today dropping that moniker as part a Material Theme redesign.
As the holiday season approaches, there is an uptick in annual travel, with Google in recent weeks launching new vacation features in Search. Google Hotel Search is now getting redesigned with the Google Material Theme.
Earlier this year, Google introduced an Activity dashboard in Docs, Sheets, and Slides that allowed users to easily keep track of file history. Like Google Drive, it’s now gaining the Google Material Theme with a redesigned interface on the web.
