Just as the specs for the LG G4 appear to have been caught in benchmark results, owners of the older LG G2 may be seeing new life put into their devices shortly… at least if you own the Verizon version of the company’s 2013 flagship handset.
LG confirmed last year that the G2 would indeed be updated to Android 5.0 following the rollout to the newer G3 device, and Verizon today shared that a phased rollout of Lollipop was underway for LG G2 owners. The upcoming LG G4, of course, is expected to ship with the Android 5.1 out of the box.

The LG G4 was (purportedly) seen in some leaked renders earlier this month, but today the upcoming handset from LG seems to have made its way through benchmarking software for the first time. As usual, GFXBench seems to be the culprit in this leak, revealing many of the upcoming device’s specs—and interestingly, the phone might be going with the Snapdragon 808 system-on-a-chip.
A new set of photos published on XDA Developers claim to show LG’s upcoming G4 Note flagship smartphone. The images show a device with design similar to that of the G Flex 2, which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, but with a stylus.
It’s unclear if the device shown in these leaked images has an all metal body like reports have claimed the LG flagship will offer. One notable quality of the design, however, is that a stylus for the device appears to be located at the top left of the phone. This lends credit to the possibility that these images are of the G4 Note, not the standard G4. The G4 Note is said to be a higher-end device than the G4, similar to what Samsung offers with its Galaxy Note phablet line-up. Some, however, have suggested that what appears to be the stylus is actually just an antenna.

We’re still in the relatively early days of Android Wear, but I think those who have tried the platform have spent enough time with it by now to know whether or not it’s essential to their lives in its current form. I hate to spoil this review in the first two lines, but I know already that, for me, Android Wear is not something I really need. Put simply, it’s just not useful enough yet. From the available Android Wear devices I’ve tried, there are a couple that I think do hardware very well — the LG G Watch R is one of them. I like it so much that I want it to be a necessary part of my day, but it just isn’t there yet… here’s why.

A new report from Korean outlet eToday suggests that Google may be looking to LG to manufacture its next-gen Nexus smartphone, which probably won’t be called the Nexus 7. Google engineers are said to have met with LG executives earlier this month to describe the deal.

<a href="http://NewGeekGuide.com/2015/03/10/lg-g4-leak-lg-g-flex-2/">Purported rendering</a> of the LG G4
LG has already said that it is working on a phone that is a bit higher-end than its upcoming LG G4 handset, and it looks like the company might go with the familiar “Note” moniker to set this device apart from its siblings. A high-end large screen smartphone specifically called the “G Note” is reportedly in the works (via Korea Herald), and it looks like LG even applied for a trademark for the phablet earlier this month…

The same guy that leaked the HTC One M9 in late January, Steve Hemmerstoffer of the well-known French site Nowhereelse.fr, has today come out via his new “OnLeaks” Twitter account to share what he says are some “early” renders of the LG G4—and the device pictured looks a lot like the LG G Flex 2 that was announced earlier this year at CES…
I love my Android Wear smartwatch—it’s a great extension to the Nexus 6 I use daily. But not many people I know have an Android Wear device, even fewer have reason to use one every day, and basically no one (outside of my circle of geeky friends) really understands why they’re useful when I try to explain what they do. My LG G Watch R is seen as cool, because I can flip between a couple dozen watch faces and reply to texts with my voice, but these things don’t really make my peers feel like they’re missing out. It’s cool, but that’s about it.
The Apple Watch was shown off again today—this time in a bit more detail—and it’s clear that the device is going to be competition to the half-dozen-or-so Android Wear devices that are on the market. It’s priced a bit higher, and that’s typical when it comes to Apple products, but there are definitely things that this device offers that Google hasn’t yet introduced. The big one—in my opinion—is Digital Touch, which Apple describes as a “fun, spontaneous way to connect with other Apple Watch wearers, wrist to wrist.”
LG has been around the Android Wear scene since the beginning. First we saw the original G Watch, then came the G Watch R, but this year LG is raising the bar in a big way. For 2015, LG has two new offerings. One of which is a stylistic upgrade over the G Watch R and another that takes its wearable mission outside of the Android Wear space altogether. Today we’re taking a quick look at LG’s Watch Urbane and Urbane LTE. How do these watches compare to previous releases from LG? Well, let’s go ahead and find out…
A couple reports out of Korea today highlight some of LG’s plans for the relatively near future, including a statement (via Korea Times) from the company’s mobile chief Cho Jun-ho suggesting that the upcoming LG G4 is going to be “radically different” than its predecessor. The device will reportedly feature a “metal-mixtured” body and sport the company’s LG UX 4.0, which Cho says will be announced sometime before the new phone.
Also, LG also reportedly has a completely new device series in the works (via Korea Herald), featuring more powerful specs than the current top-of-the-line G series…

AT&T has announced this morning that it will soon carry LG’s all-metal Watch Urbane. Revealed last month, the Watch Urbane is nearly identical to LG’s Watch R, only much more sleek with all-metal designs in either gold or silver trims.
Sprint this afternoon has announced that it will begin to offer the LG G Pad F 7.0 on March 13th. The carrier says the device will be available for free with a two-year contract and purchase of any of its available smartphones. For those not looking to bundle, the device is also available for on Sprint Easy Pay for $10 a month for 24 months.
LG today unveiled the world’s first LTE-equipped smartwatch, dubbed the LG Watch Urbane LTE. Unlike other recent smartwatches, the Urbane LTE doesn’t run Google’s Android Wear operating system, with the maker opting to install its own proprietary software that, according to CNET, is based on the defunct WebOS. The non-LTE Urbane, revealed earlier this month, still runs Google’s OS.
The metal watch features three buttons to control the interface and sports what LG says is the “world’s first NFC-based Wallet,” allowing users to make payments with the Urbane LTE at NFC-compatible retailers. A heart rate monitor is also built-in, along with a barometer, compass, gyroscope, and GPS. Voice recognition software provides a handy auto-translation feature.
LG announced today that it’s beginning the global rollout of its new LG G Flex 2 smartphone that it first unveiled early this year at CES 2015.

LG announced the LG Watch Urbane earlier this month, and the first impression of many was that it was entering the market to compete with the to-be-released Apple Watch. But whether or not that was the Korean company’s intention with this device, it’s undeniably classy and gorgeous. Now LG has given us a better look at the upcoming Android Wear watch, showing all its edges from dozens of angles in a new promotional video…
The device is basically a G Watch R in a different body, sporting IP67 dust and water resistance, a thinner bezel, and either a gold or silver trim. LG says that the details you’re probably interested in—like its price and release date—will be unveiled next week at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. We’ll be on the ground to keep you in the loop, so stay tuned for more information on this beautiful watch.
Earlier this month Google announced the version 5.1 update to Android Lollipop. Today the company revealed that several new devices launching in the Philippines would ship with the new operating system, but the rollout plan for the rest of the world was still unknown.
Now a new Geekbench test has provided us with the first evidence of Android 5.1 running on a flagship device. The benchmark for an LG Nexus 5 appeared on the site today, listing the upcoming build of Android as the device’s OS.
The phone scored a 2997, which is just slightly north of the where the same model scored on Android 5.0. Keep an eye on NewGeekGuide for continued updates on the new operating system’s release, including our complete running list of new features.
