Yesterday we got our first look at what is likely the official retail packaging for the upcoming LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P handsets. Today, it looks as though the 5X specs have been revealed by an image-less listing on Amazon.

A few weeks ago, an unreleased and unnamed LG device passed through TENAA, China’s version of the FCC. The images showed what seemed to be an unremarkable device albeit one with the unusual design choice of having the front-facing camera built into the display. Later on it was revealed by Evan Blass (@evleaks) that there would be a secondary ticker display running along the top of the primary display.
Today, the well-known leaker is back with what looks like an official press render of that device, confirming that speculation…

You may remember, just a few weeks ago, an upcoming LG device was leaked showing what looked to be a metal chassis and protruding rear camera. Today, the LG Class went official in Korea and — although it probably won’t make its way to Western markets — it looks to be a solid mid-ranger.
It’s been designed to look and feel like a quality device. Both the glass on the front and metal on the back are curved towards the left and right edges to make it feel great in hand. It’s also just 7.4mm thin, making one of the thinnest smartphones around.
Specs aren’t exactly inspiring, but typical for a mid-tier device. The 5-inch display on the front boasts 720p resolution with a pixel density of 294ppi. There’s a 13MP camera on the back and an 8MP front facing sensor. The Korean manufacturer opted for a quad-core 1.2GHz processor on the inside, along with 2GB RAM and a 2,050mAh battery.
Perhaps the most noteworthy specification is its expandable storage. Like many phones, it has a MicroSD card slot, except this one will support memory cards up to a huge 2TB after a software update is released next month. With just 16GB internal storage, that extra capacity will surely make the device much more tempting to buyers. There’s also a loud 1W loudspeaker, 4G LTE connectivity and Bluetooth 4.1. It’ll cost just under the equivalent of $340 when it goes on sale in Korea, and will be available in three colors: Blue Black, Silver and Gold.
It’s not likely that we’ll see this smartphone outside Korea, but there’s always hope that the manufacturer will release a new phone for us before the holiday season rolls around. Although I’m not holding my breath, it’d be nice to see the company compete with Samsung’s Note series.
Huawei’s upcoming Nexus smartphone will seemingly have handful ‘firsts’. It’s more than likely be the first Nexus to have a built in fingerprint sensor, it’ll be the first Nexus phone made by a Chinese company and — according to Android Police — it’ll be the first to feature 128GB of built-in storage…
As we’d previously heard, Google’s event — where it’s expected to unveil the upcoming Nexuses (Nexii?) — will take place in San Francisco on September 29th. Doors will open at 8am, with the event due to kick off at 9am and followed by hands-on time with the new devices…
Information given to Droid-Life by one of its sources claims that the names chosen for the upcoming pure Android phones will be ‘Nexus 5X’ and ‘Nexus 6P’. The first of those is a name we’ve heard before. It was rumored recently that this is the name picked out for the LG-made Nexus smartphone. Nexus 6P is new to us however, and is purportedly the moniker chosen for Huawei’s larger Nexus. Although naming plans could change between now and launch, the site claims this is unlikely since the announcement is expected before the end of this month…

A couple of new photos have popped up on a Korean blog today, purporting to show LG’s upcoming Nexus 5 (X? 2015?). There’s nothing much here that we haven’t seen already, but the blog does claim that the phone will come in a “mint green” color variant. We believe that this is likely just a matter of a photo that needs a bit of color correction, however…

There have been a number of LG handset leaks making the rounds in recent weeks and months. Whether it’s the LG Nexus or the mysterious ‘V10’, the company’s been unable to keep its upcoming devices from making appearances online. The latest device has seemingly been teased by the company itself on an invite promising ‘Something New’ on September 21. While the device name isn’t revealed, serial leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer believes it to be a mid-range phablet named the ‘LG Class’…
LG has sent out press invitations this morning for an event hosted in New York City, and it looks like there’s going to be a movie-related announcement of some kind. Besides the LG-made Nexus device that’s set to be announced by Google on September 29th, an LG “V” handset with an auxiliary ticker display has also been making rounds in the rumor mill lately. LG’s G4 is one of the best phones on the market this year. It has a phenomenal camera, great display and lasts all day on a single charge. So, when LG used the same brand name for a mini version, expectations were understandably high. Does the G4c deliver as a mid-range smartphone?
Of the Nexus announcements scheduled for later this month, the rumored LG Nexus 5 is definitely the one we know more about. A month ago the first full renders leaked, and just a few weeks ago, a photo of the device in the flesh managed to leak out as well. At least a couple publications have confirmed that this physical build is indeed the new Nexus, and we’ve even seen independent reports confirming its specifications as well.
But it’s not over yet, as Android Pit has now come out with images it claims are the new device, and they’re definitely the best look we’ve had yet…

Popular music streaming service Rdio is today announcing an expansion of its support for connected speaker systems and smart TVs, including Google’s new Google Cast for Audio platform introduced earlier this year.
In addition to supporting speakers that integrate Google’s Cast for audio platform, the music service is now available on Harman/Kardon, Denon, and the DTS Play-Fi Whole-Home Wireless ecosystem featuring leading brands such as Definitive Technology, Phorus, Polk Audio and Wren. The company also noted that it’s now available on Samsung smart TVs and arriving soon on smart TVs from LG and Hisense.
Previously Rdio was only available on Sonos speakers and setup boxes like the Apple TV and Google Chromecast.
Rdio is available free with ads or as an ad-free service for $9.99/month unlimited or on certain devices for $3.99/month with a limited number of on demand songs per day.

We told you yesterday about an unknown LG “V” handset, and now Evan Blass of evleaks has confirmed that this device is indeed the LG V10 handset that he shared many details about just a few days ago. Evan said that the device has an “auxiliary ticker display” not unlike that of the ye olde Samsung Continuum, and also went on to share some the specs of the yet-to-be-announced phone…

According to a report this morning from CNET, Google is planning two unveil two Nexus handset — one from LG, and one from Huawei — at an event scheduled from September 29th. Details of both the smaller “Nexus 5” made by LG and the new “Nexus 6” made by Huawei have been steadily leaking out over the last couple months, and — just as many have suggested — the two phones are slated to made official at the end of this month…

Smart appliances may be great, but they’re also expensive – and it’s not like any of us budget to replace things like fridges, cookers and washing-machines very often. LG thinks it may have the solution, in the form of its new SmartThinQ sensors, designed to turn our existing dumb appliances into slightly smarter ones.
The sensor can add remote control functionality to some devices, like air conditioners, and monitor others – for example, a vibration sensor sending your smartphone an alert when the wash cycle is complete.
It’s not quite the full deal, but – depending on cost – could be a decent halfway house. Press release below, and we should learn more about them at IFA later this week.

LG Electronics (LG) will showcase its latest smart home technology at IFA 2015 in Berlin this week to enhance the lives of consumers. LG’s new SmartThinQ Sensor can be attached to many traditional home appliances to make them “smart-aware”. What’s more, LG will unveil their Smart Lightwave Oven and Smart Air Conditioner that are compatible with AllJoyn, an open platform for the internet of things (IoT) developed by the Allseen Alliance. The SmartThinQ Sensor is a circular device that can be attached to existing home appliances such as washing machines or refrigerators, to sense feedback such as vibration and temperature and communicate those readings to the SmartThinQ app on users’ smartphones. For example, attaching the sensor to a normal washing machine door transforms the washer into a smart appliance that informs the user when the laundry cycle is complete. Attach the SmartThingQ Sensor to a refrigerator and it will send a notification to a connected smartphone when a particular food item is about to expire. The sensor will also keep track of how many times the door is opened even when you’re not home. And connecting the SmartThingQ Sensor to an air conditioner or other appliances will allow users to control the appliances remotely through the SmartThinQ app. AllJoyn is a collaborative open-source software framework that makes it easy for devices and apps to discover and communicate with each other. AllJoyn is endorsed by all members of the Allseen Alliance, a cross-industry IoT consortium of more than 180 companies. The AllJoyn compatible Smart Lightwave Oven from LG allows users to download, update and share recipes with friends and relatives via their mobile devices. The Smart Lightwave Oven is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing homeowners to use their smartphones to set the cooking mode, temperature and cooking time for a given dish. The Smart Lightwave Oven can even perform self-diagnosis and help find solutions and repair information online through an LG service center. LG’s Smart Air Conditioner not only informs owners when to replace the air filter, it can also be controlled remotely from a smartphone, putting an end to entering a hot, stuffy home on a hot day. “Adoption of smart home appliances has been slow because of the perception that the technology is not easily accessible,” said Jo Seong-jin, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “LG is committed to continuing its leadership in the smart home market with innovations such as LG SmartThingQ, which provides real-life benefits and offers new lifestyle conveniences through technology that is easy to use.” LG’s smart appliances and more will be on display at LG’s IFA booth in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin from September 4-9. |

Early this morning, LG announced a brand new, limited edition gold-plated version of its Urbane smartwatch. The LG Watch Urbane Luxe will be available to buy at the end of October and is expected to cost somewhere in the region of $1,200. It’s plated in 23-karat gold, features an alligator leather strap and a classic deployment clasp. What’s more, the case is coated in a piano-gloss lacquer.

In a press release early this morning, Korean tech giant LG announced that it wants to grab a bigger share of the mobile accessories market. It wants to do so with Rolly Keyboard, a wireless, portable, rollable universal keyboard. Opened, it forms a four-row keyboard with close-to full size keys. What makes the keyboard unique is the method by which it’s stowed. Unlike the traditional single fold down the middle, each row of keys has a hinge, enabling the user to roll it up in to a ‘stick’.
Rolly Keyboard is powered by a single AAA battery and uses two Bluetooth 3.0 channels to pair to two separate devices and enable easy-switching between them, similar to the Microsoft Foldable Keyboard we reviewed recently. What’s more, it also features two arms to hold smartphones or tablets upright. It’s made from polycarbonate and black ABS plastic and LG claims it “offers satisfying tactile feedback often not found on flexible silicone keyboards”. Judging from the selection of keys on the device, it seems it’s going to be compatible with multiple platforms. Instead of offering a separate row for extra function keys for tasks like media playback, volume etc. LG has opted to use an individual ‘Fn’ key which — when pressed with a labelled key — will allow users to skip tracks, play/pause, change volume, pair devices and much more. And it won’t be alone on the accessory market his year:
“LG Rolly Keyboard is just one of the many premium input devices we’ll be unveiling in the coming months as we expand our accessories offerings,” said Seo Young-jae, vice president in charge of Innovative Personal Devices at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The goal was to create a product that could add more value to LG smartphones and tablets at the same time offering a unique design proposition that hadn’t been explored before.”
LG will show off its Rolly Keyboard at IFA in Berlin at the beginning of next month and launch in the U.S. in September. Pricing and availability details will be shared once it’s available to consumers. Along with the keyboard, LG is expected to announce a range of new Android-powered G Pad tablets in an attempt to compete directly with Samsung.
