Honor Magic 5 Pro Review: Magic is in the eye of the beholder

For years, Honor was known as the Huawei sub-brand focused on budget devices, but after the Huawei-US issues, Honor split off from Huawei and became its own company. This has allowed Honor to really show what its mobile technology can do. Last year’s Honor Magic 4 Pro had some of the best hardware but was hampered by poor camera software. Now, the Honor Magic 5 Pro fixes that, while providing one of the best all-around devices with interesting software choices.

Honor 20 Pro launch

The Honor 20 Pro will go on sale on August 1 for £549

The initial launch for the Honor 20 Pro wasn’t the most well-timed as it coincided with a US trade ban. If you didn’t already know, as Honor is a subsidiary of Huawei, the trade ban affected the affordable smartphone maker quite heavily too. Thanks to the easing of sanctions, we now have a new launch date for the Honor 20 Pro in the UK of August 1.

EMUI 9.1 beta

[Update: Now rolling out in EU] EMUI 9.1 now in second public beta, available on 14 further devices

While it may be a terribly tough time for Huawei of late, it’s even tougher in many regards for the millions around the globe that already have the Chinese handsets. That said, despite a short 90-day reprieve from Google, Huawei is pushing an update for their EMUI 9.1 beta which adds 14 more devices to the program.

Huawei issues first statement after Android ban, confirms devices will still receive security updates

Huawei ban

The fallout from the US Huawei ban and subsequent removal of its Android license by Google is slowly starting to settle. Huawei has now released an official statement confirming that they will “continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to all existing Huawei and Honor smartphone and tablet products.”
