After missing the typical Friday release, the latest Google app beta is rolling out this evening. Google app 10.49 reveals work on a tutorial that explains how to launch Assistant with Android 10’s new gesture navigation, while Assistant Driving Mode might gain a dark mode.
While YouTube Music has seen a steady series of updates in recent months, Google Play Music has stagnated ahead of its eventual replacement. In April, Google removed a direct portal for smaller artists to upload songs, and is now removing the ability to gift Play Music subscriptions.

Google this week announced that Photos has 1 billion users and launched Gallery Go for the Next Billion Users. Google Photos 4.21 this week suggests that the “stories” format is coming to the main app, while Smart Display Photo Frame settings could be integrated.

With summer well underway, the Nest Hub Max should be coming sooner rather than later. The latest Google Home 2.12.50 companion app preps “Reactive UI” settings for the new Smart Display, while there is a design tweak to control dials throughout the client. This Android release, however, does not enable the custom Assistant volume we spotted on iOS.
The latest version of Duo began rolling out yesterday evening, and it reveals continued work on camera effects. Google Duo 58 also suggests some upcoming changes related to phone numbers and how you’re reached by contacts on the service.
Compared to last week’s beta that detailed Assistant Ambient Mode, the latest Google app is a quieter release. Google app 10.24 reveals more about “Brief your Assistant” and oddly removes Chromebooks from the Availability section of various Assistant features.
The latest Gboard beta features a slew of changes, including a dark theme for settings and the removal of the “Make a GIF” feature. Gboard 8.5 also reveals upcoming Google Assistant integration to share search results in messages, and emoji to GIF/sticker suggestions.

The latest update to the Android client of Google’s VoIP service is rolling out today with one notable user-facing tweak. Google Voice 2019.28 finally adopts the Material Theme account switcher, and is working on vCard support.
