Google announced the Android P Developer Preview this morning and it’s shaping up to be a big update with numerous functional and visual changes. We’re installing the factory images right now to explore the latter, but in the meantime catch up on all the new app features with our updating (reverse chronological) list below.
For the third year in a row, Google is releasing a developer preview of the next major version of its mobile operating system. Android P has a number of new features for developers and apps to take advantage of, while there are a multitude of system-level changes. Android also gains a new design, especially for notifications, the drawer, and quick settings.
Starting with Nougat in 2016, Google has released developer previews for the next version of Android early in the year. Given the ramp up in Android P references over the past several weeks, it should be no different this year, with a possible date now rumored.
We’re just a couple of months away from our first look at Android P, very likely coming at this year’s Google I/O. There are a few things we know about the upcoming release, and now, we’re learning of a new security feature that blocks camera access.
This morning, a report came out that potentially gives us our first real idea as to what might be coming with Android P. This includes support for different screen shapes, more Google Assistant integrations, and even potentially a complete redesign to the OS.
