HTC Desire series officially launching in the US

htc-desire-610-en-slide-01 Today, HTC announced further availability of its Desire 800 and 600 smartphone series in the US. The HTC Desire 816 features a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 1.6GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 1.5GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. This affordable handset will be available on August 12th from Virgin Mobile and HTC for $300 outright.

Former Googler Mikey Dickerson to lead the White House’s new digital services team

Google Glass being used by Kansas City surgeon to help perform facial reconstructive surgeries

Some medical schools are using Google Glass to train the surgeons of tomorrow, however Mountain View’s wearable computer is also teaching some old dogs a few new tricks. Kansas City plastic surgeon and Lt. Governor of Kanas, Dr. Jeff Colyer recently added Google’s high-tech eyewear to his equipment list. When performing medical procedures from North Kansas City Hospital, Dr. Colyer uses Glass during facial reconstructive surgeries.

Google partnering with other tech heavyweights to develop a $300 million Trans-Pacific cable system routed between the US and Japan

Google is contributing to a $300 million project to develop and operate a Trans-Pacific high-speed internet cable system called “FASTER.” Other companies involved in the venture include China Mobile International, China Telecom Global, Global Transit, KDDI and SingTel, with NEC acting as the system supplier. This group effort will utilize a high-quality 6-fiber-pair cable and optical transmission technologies.

As indicated by its budget-friendly price tag, the G Vista isn’t exactly a luxury item. YouTube for Android reportedly offering 1440p playback options for the LG G3

Google could be testing 1440p video playback on its YouTube for Android app. The folks at Droid-Life have successfully enabled the higher resolution on an LG G3, however we tested the software with three separate devices (Korean LG G3, Verizon LG G3 and an Oppo Find 7) and weren’t so lucky. So perhaps Mountain View is slowly deploying this new feature.

Google Fit preview SDK now available to download

Almost two months back at I/O, Google formally announced its new Google Fit health tracking platform. With support from partners like Addidas and Nike, Mountain View said that it would soon release a preview SDK for developers and today the company has made good on its word. Google silently launches Chrome 64-bit Canary and Dev channel for Mac OS X users
