The Android 17 leaks continue today with a preview of the upcoming blur effect for System UI, as well as functional changes and updates.
RKBDI provided us with an early look at an internal Android 17 build.
Android 17 Blur
First up is the new blur effect for system UI elements. The volume slider provides one of the best examples of the switch from a solid light/dark background to a translucent material. Themed by Dynamic Color, you can see the background wallpaper. (Note: The three-dot overflow icon has been replaced by something more descriptive.)
In the full volume panel screenshot, you can make out app icons at the bottom of the screen.
Finally, there’s the translucent power menu, which also now applies a noticeable blur to the background of your current screen.

Today, activating screen recording brings up a pop-up menu, with Quick Settings remaining in the background.

I have to be honest as someone who has used and loved Android before: this is bad. Really bad. It feels like a regression compared to iOS. I'm not sure what Google is thinking, but I hate this. It copies the illegibility of iOS 7 to 18, with none of the good parts.
At least Liquid Glass makes it distinguishable what's meant to be pressed vs meant to be read. This just looks horrible!
In Android 17, you get a lighter interface that makes use of a floating pill. When “Entire screen” is selected, you get the following options: Record device audio, Record microphone, and Show touches.
The status bar count remains and tapping once a recording has started brings back the control pill. You can doodle on the image with multiple colors and access settings. Afterwards, you get a preview screen to share or edit.
App lock + Bubble
When long-pressing on an application, you will see a “Lock app” option. This is not yet fleshed out in this build.
Similarly, “Bubble” might no longer be limited to apps with conversations.
