Moving into 2025, it was rumored that Samsung was on track to release the Galaxy Ring 2 alongside the Galaxy S25 series in February. That window has come and gone, and new reports indicate the company doesn’t plan on releasing the sequel anytime soon.
Rumors are still circulating about Samsung’s plans for a second Galaxy Ring. The original device launched in July 2024 – well over a year ago. Samsung doesn’t often wait more than a year between device iterations, which may be a sign that the company hasn’t found a clear path moving forward.
The latest report comes from Korea JooAng Daily, which notes that Samsung doesn’t plan on announcing the Galaxy Ring 2 in February. The announcement would have accompanied the Galaxy S26 series as an upgrade to the company’s flagship lineup.
The new information comes as Samsung launches a countersuit against Oura regarding a patent infringement. Oura had previously filed a lawsuit against Samsung, seeking a sales ban for the device’s form factor, as smart rings don’t vary much in design, by nature.
Samsung hasn’t exactly dominated the smart ring market. Companies like Oura have been able to establish a foothold by getting in the door early and developing software around available health tracking hardware. As exciting as Samsung’s entry was, the Galaxy Ring hasn’t exactly proven to be a game-changer, among other sparse issues. Further, it’s easily overshadowed by Samsung’s existing Galaxy Watch health-tracking capabilities.
There’s no new information on when Samsung plans on releasing a Galaxy Ring 2 – if at all. The company just announced the Galaxy Z TriFold, and plans on announcing the Galaxy S26 lineup in February. If a Galaxy Ring 2 does turn the corner, it might not be for a while.
