Following the Feature Drop announcement two weeks ago, Google Maps is rolling out Power Saving mode on the Pixel 10 series.
When using driving navigation, tapping the power button will bring you to a simplified, black-and-white layout that includes the map layer.
The system status bar remains available in this view along with the next turn UI at the top, though the Google Assistant/Gemini button has been removed. At the bottom, you just get route information with the left and right buttons disappearing. Google has removed all the FABs (floating action buttons) at the right, with your current speed also unavailable.
Swiping down from the top of the screen will show your full notification shade. Tapping the screen or the power button brings you back to the rich experience. Otherwise, Power Saving mode will automatically turn off upon arriving at your destination.
This is available on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, with Google reporting up to four more hours of battery life in this mode: “Maximum battery life savings based on testing in California in late 2025 using fully-charged Pixel 10 devices, with display Brightness set at [90%] and Adaptive Brightness disabled.”
Actual savings depend on display settings, traffic conditions and other factors.
Power Saving mode is not available with any other navigation type, like cycling or walking. Additionally, it only works in portrait orientation.
This feature is enabled by default following a server-side update, but can be disabled:
- Open the Google Maps app.
- Tap your Profile picture > Settings > Navigation.
- Under “Driving options” (near the bottom), turn Power saving mode on or off.
