Ahead of Gemini for Home early access coming at the end of October, Google is rolling out a firmware update that brings new light colors to the Nest Audio and Mini.
Upon hearing “Hey Google,” the Nest Mini and Audio previously showed 4 white lights. Google now cycles through a rainbow of colors, including blue, red, yellow, and green, after the hotword is recognized. It’s back to white after that initial sequence.
This parade is a bit easier to distinguish depending on the color of your speaker. It’s most obvious with Chalk and Charcoal, while the first set of dots disappear into Coral. Back in May, Google tested blue/purple, but that never widely rolled out.
We’re seeing this latest iteration with Preview Program firmware version 3.77.500695 on the Nest Mini and Audio, with that release also available on the Google Home and Home Mini. (The current stable is 3.76.495998.) You can join by going to device settings in the Google Home app > Device information > Preview program.
Google is presumably preparing devices for Gemini testing that will start rolling in the US on October 28.
These new colors match the latest Gemini spark logo. However, the upcoming Google Home Speaker’s light ring uses the original blue and purple color palette as of the unveiling. It remains to be seen whether that will change by the device’s Spring 2026 launch.
