Google Keep rolling out reminders-to-Tasks migration

As previewed last year, Google Keep is replacing its legacy reminders system with Google Tasks. This is now beginning to roll out.

Since 2023, Google has been working to unify to-dos and reminders into one product: Google Tasks. This replaced Assistant Reminders, while it’s fully integrated into Google Calendar. The last holdout was “Reminders” in Google Keep.

Going forward, “Keep reminders will be automatically saved to Tasks,” which also means availability in Calendar and Gemini. When you tap the bell icon in the top-right corner of a note, the “Reminder me later” sheet features the blue Google Tasks app icon and a line about how “Your reminders are saved in Google Tasks.”

Old vs. new

Like before, there’s Later today, Tomorrow morning, Next [week], and Pick a date & time. (Go to Keep settings to customize your default reminder times for morning, afternoon, and evening.)

As part of this transition, location reminders are no longer available. Additionally, the Google Keep app will stop sending reminder notifications. You must have Google Calendar or Tasks installed on your device.

Meanwhile, you can “edit the date or time in Keep, Calendar, Tasks, or Gemini,” but Keep will not let you “edit the title of the task.” Additionally:

  • When you delete a task in Calendar or Tasks, the note remains.
  • If you want to delete a note with a task, you can delete the note and task or just the note.
  • If you archive a note with a task, it has no effect on the task.

The reminders-to-Tasks migration is rolling out now with full availability in the coming weeks for “all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.”

  • New system: “Remind me later: Your reminders are saved in Google Tasks”
  • Old system: “Remind me later: Saved in Google Reminders”

With this launch, Google Tasks is the “single solution for managing your to-dos across Workspace.”

So whether you’re saving something from Keep, Gmail, Calendar, Chat, Docs, or Gemini, Google Tasks will make sure it’s up to date and accessible across the Workspace products you use.
