GrapheneOS will drop Google Pixel exclusivity with ‘major’ Snapdragon-powered devices coming

GrapheneOS is a security-focused Android experience that, to date, has been available solely on Google Pixel devices. Soon, though, a “major OEM” will be added to GrapheneOS’ support list, with Snapdragon-powered devices coming soon.

In a comment on Reddit, the team behind GrapheneOS has confirmed plans to start offering devices other than Google Pixel smartphones at a “similar” price. These Snapdragon-powered devices are coming from “a major OEM” that remains unnamed in the post.

Like Pixel support, users of whatever device this ends up being would be able to install GrapheneOS on hardware that wasn’t running Graphene out of the box. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is also mentioned, and it’s also directly confirmed that whatever device this is has yet to be released.

So, what could it be?

The most likely answer here is OnePlus, which started off its history with CyanogenMod as its OS. But it’s also hard to say this for certain given recent changes the brand has made in regards to its bootloader security. In a further thread, GrapheneOS says that “it’s one of the major Android OEMs and they’re definitely serious about working with us,” while adding that it is not Fairphone, as some have speculated.
