Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3.1 ‘No Data Wipe’ OTA rolls out

After a prolonged delay (including issues last week), all Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3.1 users are now seeing the “No Data Wipe” OTA.

The opt-out update started rolling out on September 12 for some Beta 3.1 users. (On our end, we only received the OTA on a Pixel Tablet.) As of this morning, it’s now rolling out for everyone that left the Android Beta Program (to avoid QPR2 and early bugs), including our Pixel 8a.

On a Pixel 8a, this Android 16 QPR1 OTA is a small 39.57 MB update that takes devices from the July 2025 security patch to September’s release (a week or so before next month’s update). Go to Settings > Settings > Software updates > System update to download and install.

The opt-out is usually pretty straightforward, but this cycle certainly presented issues. This OTA comes as those on Beta 3.1 were impacted by Google Wallet/NFC tap-to-pay problems over the last few days. There were also issues connecting with the Pixel-exclusive VPN by Google.
