‘Google Home Speaker’ branding leaks with ‘360 audio’ touted

On October 1, Google is set to reveal updated 2K Nest Cams and a smart speaker. We might now know what the latter will be called: “Google Home Speaker.”

About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we’re able to see various lines of code within that hint at possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ever ship these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We’ll try to enable those that are closer to being finished, however, to show you how they’ll look in case that they do ship. With that in mind, read on.

Strings in version 3.41 of Google Home for Android suggest that the upcoming speaker teased at Made by Google 2025 will simply be called the “Google Home Speaker.” This is assuming that’s not a placeholder name.

The rounded design certainly leads credence to “360 audio.” More broadly, the name is a departure from the Nest Mini, Nest Audio, and Nest Hub branding. It’s a return to the original Google Home, Home Mini, and Home Max.

It comes as Nest Aware is being rebranded to “Google Home Premium,” with today’s strings providing additional confirmation.

If it requires a subscription, then we must be getting more privacy features where by our usage does not collect information about us for Google use. That is what we should get on this direct revenue model. Google "can't" have it both ways. Hopefully there is much more on device processing for home controls.
