Report: Galaxy S26 Edge replacing S26+, even though no one seems to want it

According to a report, Samsung is already planning to launch a “Galaxy S26 Edge” next year, despite middling reception of the first generation this week, and even replace one of its existing devices in the process.

The Elec reports that Samsung has plans to replace the Galaxy S26+ with a Galaxy S26 Edge next year.

In a way, this makes some sense. The Galaxy S25+ and S25 Edge share the same screen size and overall footprint, with the Edge only being thinner. The Edge is also $100 more expensive, but does upgrade the camera to the same 200MP sensor as the Ultra. The biggest difference between the two, really, just boils down to battery life.

The report brings out that Samsung has started development of this next-generation “slim” device, but it’s contingent on the performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Pretty sure Apple is planning on doing the same thing with their air. Apparently the plus models don't sell very well.

If that’s true, it seems very likely this second-generation won’t happen, at least not in the capacity that it replaces the Galaxy S26+. Reactions to the Galaxy S25 Edge this week largely focused on questioning why the device exists at all, especially considering its very tiny battery compared to other flagships in Samsung’s lineup, most of which already lag behind the competition in terms of battery capacity.

Samsung’s efforts in building a slim smartphone are likely to improve with time, especially as new battery tech becomes more widespread, but it’s hard to imagine the needed leaps to replace a long-standing part of Samsung’s flagship lineup could be made in just a year.
