Some Android Auto users have noticed that their apps are struggling with scrolling as of late thanks to an ongoing bug.
For the sake of safety, scrolling is usually limited in Android Auto apps. That can already make for a somewhat frustrating experience if you’re trying to find a specific song in a music app, for instance. Making matter far worse as of late, though, is that a bug with Android Auto is causing scrolling to effectively not work at all.
Over the past few months, there have been occasional reports of certain Android Auto apps having issues with scrolling. The issue sees users unable to scroll past a few rows before being forced back to the top of the list. The problem has been reported with a variety of apps including Amazon Music, Podcast Addict, SoundCloud, and more. One developer even found the problem while making a new media app for the platform.
Interestingly, the problem seems to occur only when music is playing. When content is paused, scrolling works as expected, as the aforementioned developer shows in a screen recording below.
The vast majority of media apps on Android Auto are all built using the same framework, suggesting that the problem here is not on the developer, but rather with an update to Android Auto itself. The problem first popped up in early February 2025, and there have been more and more reports in the time since, with a thread regarding the problem hitting “trending” status on Google’s forums recently.
Prior to this issue, some users also found issues with the “search by letter” functionality in YouTube Music.
