Google Maps introduced its revamped incident reports last year and appears to be expanding support with new weather-related incidents showing up for some users in the mobile app and on Android Auto too.
Incident reports in Google Maps work very similarly to how they’ve been in Waze for a long time. If drivers encounter a crash, obstacle, or any other road hazard, they can report it to warn other drivers who are using Maps. It can be a little distracting to some, but does certainly come with a lot of added utility.
Now, Google appears to be expanding the number of reporting options available.
Spotted by Android Police, Google Maps is testing several new incident reports through its Android app and, by extension, on Android Auto. The new options are weather-related and include:
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
The new options appear after “Stalled vehicle” on the existing listing, while “Police” is pushed out of the main view.
Google has not yet rolled this change out to all users, but it certainly seems handy.
This is the second update Google has made to incident reports, previously clarifying speed traps to a more general “Police” option back in November.
