If you’ve purchased a product from Fairphone in recent years, a strange email might have appeared in your inbox, and you’re not alone – but it wasn’t a data breach.
Users on Fairphone’s forums report getting errant confirmation emails for purchases made years ago, all with correct information, but odd URLs inside and a new sender, “noreply@test.email.bloomreach.com” instead of the “noreply@tmail.fairphone.com” used on the original emails.
Rightfully, many Fairphone users are concerned of a potential data breach, but this doesn’t appear to be the case, or so Fairphone says.
In a comment, Fairphone says that the issue was caused by a “malfunction” on the part of its email partner, Bloomreach. The problem was “likely” internal and is said not to be caused by a data breach. But an investigation is ongoing.
We’ve looked into the emails you’ve been getting since last evening.
At this point it is likely that these are coming from our official emailing tool, Bloomreach, triggered by an internal malfunction, and not from a data breach.
We’re investigating and will keep you posted.
It’s still possible this could have been caused by a breach or hack of some kind, but we’ll have to wait and see for the time being. That said, the evidence does point to a malfunction of some kind, considering the “test.email” indicator and Bloomreach documentation showing the same URLs found within the email.
