Threads will start showing ads to all users next week

Meta has announced that, starting “next week,” its Twitter/X competitor Threads will begin showing ads to all users.

In a blog post today (via 9to5Mac), Meta says that ads are coming to Threads “globally” starting the week of January 26. This comes roughly two and a half years after the platform debuted, and also after ads were tested in select markets last year.

Meta says:

Beginning next week, we are expanding ads on Threads to users in all markets globally. This follows the initial rollout of ads on Threads to advertisers last spring. Ads on Threads are powered by Meta’s proven AI-powered ads system, which means people can expect to see the same level of personalization in Threads ads that they’re used to on other Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

A remarkably blurry demo of ads on Threads were also shown, including image, video, carousel, “Advantage+Catalog,” and app ads formats.
