Google is coming back to Movies Anywhere as Disney movies return for sale

Google and Disney might’ve reached a deal to return the latter’s channels to YouTube TV nearly two weeks ago, but there was still some unfinished business surrounding the breakup when it came to your personal movie library. Thankfully, on both the purchasing front and the Movies Anywhere front, things should be returning to normal very soon.

While most of the pain in the feud between Google and Disney was felt by YouTube TV subscribers, sports fans were far from the only party hurt in this equation. Disney initially pulled its entire film catalog — including legacy Fox titles — from Google’s various digital storefronts, including the Google TV app and YouTube, alongside the termination of Google Play as an option for linking within Movies Anywhere, a platform owned by Disney. And while the YouTube TV dispute ended back on November 14th, neither of these unintended victims were actually restored in the aftermath.

Until this week, that is. After nearly an entire month of being delisted, Disney’s entire film library is back on all of Google’s various digital storefronts, allowing you to rent or purchase films in franchises like Star Wars or the MCU without turning to third-party alternatives like Amazon. That’s good news in the immediate sense, but for those who rely on Movies Anywhere to sync their libraries across platforms, you’ll have an extra dose of positivity to carry you into Thanksgiving. According to a new FAQ page on the Movies Anywhere website, Disney is working on bringing Google back onto the service as a partner, just as it was a month ago.

It’s perfect timing ahead of the holiday season, where Disney’s line-up of classics like The Muppets Christmas Carol are bound to be in high demand. Similarly, with physical movies bound to be given as gifts in just a month’s time, getting Google back in the Movies Anywhere program is great news for those looking to activate those bundled digital copies.
