Pixel Launcher gets vibrant Dynamic Color in Android 16 QPR2

Android 16 QPR2 is a sizable update that includes an updated color palette for the recently redesigned Pixel Launcher search bar.

Google starts by updating the larger background container. When the system dark theme is enabled, a much lighter Dynamic Color shade is now leveraged. It helps visually distinguish the actual search bar from the broader pill. Meanwhile, the microphone, Google Lens, and AI Mode icons now have a lighter background for increased contrast.

In light mode, the background pill is much more vibrant and can really pop on your homescreen. The pastel look is gone, with the previous choice on the pale and muted side. Similarly, the icons are darker.

The icons in the search bar at the top of the app grid have also been updated. Other changes include a slightly larger mic, Lens, and AI Mode buttons that makes things more proportional.

Android 16 QPR2 is presumably coming next month with Themed icons for all applications, as well as four icon shape options in addition to the circle. It’s currently in beta and did not receive a November 2025 security patch this month.
