YouTube TV packages likely on the way, renewed Disney deal hints

YouTube TV is a pricey service, but it seems increasingly likely that more flexible packages are planned, and Google’s new agreement with Disney makes that all the more clear.

Earlier this year, there were whispers of a dedicated “Sports & Broadcast” package on YouTube TV. At the time, this was mostly discussing how Fox channels would be impacted, as YouTube TV was in negotiations with the broadcaster, but it was said that the ability to create this package and include select Fox channels was “an important part” of those negotiations.

Now, we’re getting our first “confirmation” of that.

After a two-week blackout, Disney reached a new deal with Google to bring its channels back to YouTube TV. While the full terms of the deal haven’t been shared (and likely never will), Disney did directly hint that YouTube TV is working on dedicated package offerings.

One of the bullet points Disney shared explains:

Select networks to be included in various genre-specific packages.

This seems far-fetched but I'd love to save money on my plan if it means I can shed some sports channels I never use. And in the off chance I want one for a special event I can always turn it on for a month then turn it back off.

This isn’t super specific, but it sure sounds a lot like that “Sports & Broadcast” package that was previously reported on for YouTube TV. Disney, the owner of ESPN, being willing to participate certainly goes a long way in bringing that idea to reality. The use of the word “various” implies YouTube TV is likely working on more than one package.

YouTube TV, of course, is very popular among sports fans, especially NFL fans, thanks to it being the exclusive way to watch NFL Sunday Ticket games. YouTube TV is also notably the first way viewers will be able to watch the new NBC Sports Network, starting today.

Would you subscribe to a dedicated sports package on YouTube TV? What other packages would you want to see?
