Samsung compares Galaxy S25 Edge to iPhone Air, runs out of things to talk about [Video]

Samsung has reportedly been on the fence regarding the future of its super-slim smartphones after the Galaxy S25 Edge failed badly, but that hasn’t stopped the company from putting on a brave face to try and compare the Galaxy S25 Edge to the iPhone Air in a series of ads.

It was reported in mid-October that Samsung was considering throwing in the towel on slim smartphones following the epic failure of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Later reports revealed that Samsung hasn’t made a final decision yet, and that a “Galaxy S26 Edge” could still live on, but the company is clearly shaken.

But, of course, the marketing train chugs along, with ads going out to compare the Galaxy S25 Edge to the iPhone Air quite literally as these reports were making the rounds.

SammyGuru spotted ads posted to the Samsung Korea page on Instagram, with the two ads directly comparing the Galaxy S25 Edge to the iPhone Air. The first ad touts the better resolution of the Edge’s 200MP main camera over the mere 48MP single-camera of the iPhone Air by showing how clear text is when zooming in on the shot. That’s a real, useful benefit of Samsung’s slim-but-still-thicker device, even if Samsung’s photo processing did zap some of the detail out of that shot.

Next up is another valid thing to bring up, an ad that showcases how the Galaxy S25 Edge has an ultrawide camera and the iPhone Air does not. Simple, effective, and a clear area where Samsung has a strength over Apple.

The third ad compares the cameras yet again, this time just to show off Samsung’s “Instant Slow-Mo” feature that… has literally nothing to do with how slim the phone is. It’s a useful feature, sure, but a bizarre choice when comparing two slim smartphones.

It’s almost like Samsung ran out of things that its thin smartphone does better, but who’s to say?

It’s still unclear if Samsung will make a return to slim smartphones next year, but it just seems so weird to see Samsung putting its widely-disliked Galaxy S25 Edge up against the surprisingly-well-received iPhone Air.
