Walmart’s Google Home-integrated cameras promise the feature set of Nest but at a fraction of the cost. But, for some users, there have been some issues in getting these cameras working.
Since their launch earlier this month, Walmart’s Onn cameras with Google Home integration have been available for purchase at astoundingly low prices of $22.96 for the indoor camera and $49.86 for the doorbell. And, overall, it seems like things have gone relatively well.
There are some issues floating around, though, as we’ve noted in user reports.
The main issue we’ve seen is that several users report that the settings menu for Walmart’s Google Home cameras is inaccessible. An issue saying “Couldn’t connect” or similar pops up when trying to access settings. Users affected say that the live feed and recordings aren’t affected, but that the menu is unusable. We’ve seen this issue pop up on Reddit as well as in the reviews on Walmart’s website. For some, this issue recently fixed itself.

Update: Google has confirmed this issue has been fixed.
If you were encountering the “Request contains an invalid argument.” or “Couldn’t Connect” error, this was due to an issue impacting the ability to access the settings menu. This issue has been resolved, sorry for the inconvenience!
The setup issue mentioned below also appears to be network-related
Another problem that doesn’t seem nearly as widespread is in setup.
Some have said that the setup process for Walmart’s cameras gets stuck on the “Activating” page, with the Google Home app eventually ending the attempt and telling the user to start over. This is an issue we’ve noticed on one of our own Walmart cameras, though we’ve also run into a problem where the “Updating” page is the cause of failure.
These reports are likely in the minority, but it’s been tough to get a clear picture of everything. So, have you tried? If you’ve purchased one of Walmart’s new Onn cameras for Google Home, let us know in the comments below how your experience has been.
