HBO Max raises prices on the same day as Disney+ hike

Following comments teasing the change from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, HBO Max has today made a price hike official, with prices going up by around 10% on all plans.

HBO Max – formerly Max, and formerly HBO Max before that – was apparently considered “way underpriced” by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. Well, it’s not anymore, as HBO Max has just issued a price hike that makes it one of the most expensive streaming services out there.

As of today, HBO Max prices now start at $10.99/month for the ad-supported plan, up from $9.99/month previously. The Standard and Premium plans have also received roughly 10% increases to $18.49/month and $22.99/month, respectively. The price hikes are as follows:

  • Basic with Ads: Now $10.99, previously $9.99
  • Standard: Now $18.49, previously $16.99
  • Premium: Now $22.99, previously $20.99

With this change, HBO Max is now one of the most expensive streaming services you can subscribe to, at least in the US market.

Looking at the Standard plan, equivalent offerings from competing services are generally less. The only exception is Disney+, which is implementing its own price hike today (announced last month) to $18.99/month.

  • HBO Max (Standard, no ads): $18.49/month
  • Netflix (Standard, no ads): $17.99/month
  • Disney+ (No ads): $18.99/month
  • Peacock (Premium Plus, no ads): $16.99/month
  • Paramount+ (Premium, no ads): $12.99/month
  • Apple TV: $12.99/month
