Google has confirmed that the brief disappearance of GameSnacks on Android Auto was just a bug, and has since fixed the issue.
Added in 2021, GameSnacks on Android Auto delivers a handful of HTML5-based games that can be played on your car’s display while the vehicle is parked. But, recently, the app disappeared for many Android Auto users following updates, suggesting that Google may have been planning to remove the feature.
Thankfully, that’s not the case after all.
In a comment on its forums, Google has confirmed that the “removal” of GameSnacks was actually a bug that affected the game showing in the app launcher. That’s why users were still able to see GameSnacks in the on-phone launcher settings for Android Auto, but not on the car’s display.
A Google representative said:
Thanks for reporting the issue that the GameSnacks app was missing in the app launcher. We are pleased to report that the team has implemented a fix. Please make sure to update your Android Auto app to the latest version (15.3 or above), which should resolve the issue.
So, that’s now been resolved as of Android Auto 15.3. That release, as well as newer ones including the latest Android Auto 15.5, bring GameSnacks back into the app launcher as pictured below.
