Motorola launches ultra-thin Edge 70 in China, international release coming soon

After enough leaks to make you think this was a Google product, Motorola’s iPhone AI and Galaxy S25 Edge competitor is finally official in China. And while it might not be the true flagship those other phones are, it could be enough to win some shoppers over when it hits international markets later this year.

The Moto Edge 70 — referred to as the X70 Air in China — has a store page up courtesy of Lenovo, confirming most of what we’ve heard about this device for the last month or so (via The Verge). At 5.3mm thick, the X70 Air actually measures in as a slimmer device than either of those devices, while simultaneously bundling a (relatively speaking) massive 4,800mAh battery within. At just 159 grams, it’s one of the lightest 6.7-inch smartphones ever launched, but that doesn’t mean it backs up that chassis with true flagship specs.

Yes, as previously leaked, Motorola’s leaning on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC here, not the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite or the A19 Pro found in Samsung and Apple’s respective rivals. It’s not a bad chip, but if you were hoping for a true alternative to those other slim devices, this isn’t quite the same thing. Its specs sheet is made up of some pretty excellent improvements, though, including 68W fast-charging for that battery and IP68 and IP69 water and dust resistance, a growing trend from Chinese OEMs.

Its design is equally stunning, especially thanks to some very fun color choices with matching camera rings. The teal/orange combo is especially good-looking, and compared to the washed out silver hues leaned on by Samsung and Apple in this space, feels equally refreshing. Those colors are, as usual, courtesy of Motorola’s partnership with Pantone, which has kept the company as a rare outlier in a market filled with boring, played-out shades.

The Moto X70 Air is arriving in China on October 31st, while Motorola UK continues to tease a new Edge announcement for next month. No word yet on a US release, but considering the company’s focus on selling the Razr series in North America above all else, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
