Google Home expanding Nest, Gemini features to third-party brands starting with $23 Walmart camera

With its major Gemini revamp to Google Home and Nest Cam, Google is opening the door to third-party cameras accessing the same level of integration and features, and it starts with incredibly affordable cameras from Walmart.

Google, clearly proud of the package it has put together with Gemini for Home, says that it “shouldn’t be limited to just one brand, form factor or price point” and will be working with partners going forward to develop additional camera hardware beyond its Nest portfolio.

The first entrant is Walmart’s Onn brand, which is delivering Nest-level cameras at Wyze-level prices.

The Walmart Onn Indoor Camera Wired costs $22.96 and has full Google Home integration and the same features you’ll find on Nest cameras. This includes setup in the Google Home app, notifications through Home, new Gemini features for cameras, recordings via Google Home Premium (formerly Nest Aware), and all of the other core features of Nest cameras, all for literally less than 25% of the price.

Walmart will also sell the Onn Video Doorbell Wired for $49.86 with the same level of integration. Both cameras support 1080p recording, and it looks like the doorbell has a physical chime too.

These are both available today, and Google says they’re just the start of wider partnerships for third-party cameras in Home.
