YouTube TV is contacting customers this evening to confirm that Univision and UniMas channels are being removed from the catalog immediately, and it comes right as a deal with NBC is in limbo.
Just hours ahead of when we expect to hear more about the status of NBC channels on YouTube TV, an email has been sent to customers regarding Univision and UniMas channels as a deal with TelevisaUnivision has failed to be renewed.
Univision and UniMas as well as the ViX Premium add-on have been removed from YouTube TV as of today.
Google’s email to customers reads:
With YouTube TV, we strive to offer you a wide variety of live programming. To do this, we enter into agreements with network partners, and our decisions about which channels to continue carrying are based on viewer consumption and pricing.
With that in mind, we wanted to let you know that we have been working with TelevisaUnivision to reach an agreement that reflects the value of their content. Unfortunately their current demands aren’t supported by their performance on YouTube TV over the last four years, and despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to reach a deal. Starting today, TelevisaUnivision content, including Univision and UniMas, will be removed from YouTube TV, as well as any Library recordings you have from these channels. For more information on the impact to our ViX Premium add-on, please visit our Help Center.
You can continue to watch select TelevisaUnivision programming on the Univision Noticias YouTube channel or by purchasing their ViX Premium streaming service.
We hope YouTube TV continues to be your service of choice, but we understand some of our members may want to cancel their subscriptions. As always, family managers have the ability to cancel anytime.
NBC’s deal with YouTube TV is set to end at midnight on September 30, but there’s been no news just yet on the status of negotiations, but things were getting heated earlier this week. YouTube has also committed to offering customers a $10 credit if NBC channels are removed.
