In a case of really bad timing, Disney+ is getting a price hike, affecting both Disney+ and all of its bundle offerings.
Confirmed via a support page, Disney+ is getting a price hike of $2-3 per month per plan. For the most popular plans, this means that Disney+ on its own will go up to $11.99/month with ads or $18.99/month without, while the Disney+/Hulu Bundle with ads will jump from $10.99/month to $12.99/month.
The new pricing kicks in starting on October 21 as breaks down as follows:
- Disney+ (standalone, with ads): $9.99 > $11.99
- Disney+ Premium (standalone, no ads): $15.99 > $18.99
- Disney+ & Hulu Bundle (with ads): $10.99 > $12.99
- Disney+ & Hulu Bundle (no ads): $19.99 > unchanged
- Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select Bundle (with ads): $16.99 > $19.99
- Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Select Bundle (no ads except ESPN): $26.99 > $29.99
- Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle (with ads): $16.99 > $19.99
- Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle (no ads): $29.99 > $32.99
The timing here is obviously not great, as Disney is currently under intense public scrutiny for having taken Jimmy Kimmel’s late night show off the air. Just yesterday, Disney announced that Kimmel’s show would return (though some ABC affiliates will not be airing the show), with at least one report (via The Verge) claiming that the quick return was due to “subscriptions hemorrhaging” at that news, with fears that today’s price hike would make matters worse.
