Samsung’s Android XR headset has a new October 21 launch date, report claims

New reports indicate that Samsung’s Android XR headset could launch late next month, well before the company launches its upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold.

According to ETNews, “Project Moohan” and/or “Project Inifinite” has a set date of October 21. That’s when Samsung plans on announcing the new device. The event will seemingly be held online-only, as opposed to a traditional Galaxy Unpacked event where both live and online audiences are welcome.

This comes as previous reports indicated that Samsung may launch the Android XR headset on October 13, but the latest news seems to push that date a little further back in the month. It isn’t a significant delay, and Samsung has a little leeway considering this is a first-generation product and not a new Galaxy device. The company is only planning to sell 100,000 units by the end of the year.

It will still be the earliest iteration of Android XR, with XReal’s Android XR headset set to be announced in early 2026.

Previous reports place the Android XR headset from Samsung at anywhere from $1,800 to $2,800 USD, which is further affirmed by the latest news. That comes in cheaper than Apple’s Vision Pro, and it remains to be seen how well Android XR performs in routine usage.

Samsung appears also to be making corrective lenses an optional purchase for users in “partnership with domestic eyewear companies.”

That leaves potential options for glasses wearers very open-ended, but it looks like the option will be, at the very least, available. It also means that Samsung’s Android XR headset likely won’t leave head space for glasses, which was expected.

Right after launch on October 21, Samsung’s XR headset is expected to be available for purchase, which likely means the device will go up for pre-order.
