Since the Pixel 10 and Android 16 launch, the pace of M3 Expressive updates has slowed down, but Google Maps is readying some tweaks.
The carousel for Directions, Start, Ask (Gemini), Call, Save, Share, etc. is now always docked to the bottom of your screen. It was previously at the top of the Overview tab (until you scrolled down). The persistence is nice for consistency and one-handed usage, especially on this frequently used page.
Old vs. new

With that new position, Google has moved the top tabs for Overview, Reviews, Photos, Updates, About, etc. so that it’s above the image previews. There are also tweaks to the ratings, distance, and other information underneath the place name.

Meanwhile, the Material 3 Expressive containers are now leveraged for the description, address, website, phone number, and other fields. This is a good implementation that helps modernize the page, with the faint line separators no longer in use. Buttons are also placed in pills.
Google Maps already has the shorter bottom bar, and fullscreen account menu. The app still doesn’t leverage Dynamic Color.
We’re seeing these M3 Expressive with the latest Google Maps beta (version 25.37.x).
