Gemini app rolling out box-less prompt bar redesign

Following the web, Gemini is beginning to roll out the latest prompt bar redesign on Android and iOS.

The prompt bar is no longer a rounded rectangle. Instead, it’s merged to the bottom edge, including your keyboard. There’s a shadow effect on the top edge and it looks more like a sheet, thus matching the plus and Tools menu, which is not yet widely rolled out on mobile.

Old vs. new

Removing the container gives Gemini more horizontal space and lets Google place components a little bit closer to the left/right edge of your screen.

Google has moved the “Gemini can make mistakes, so double-check it” disclaimer from below the prompt bar to the end of the response. This lets you read an additional line or two of text per screen.

With this design, there’s no longer a shared look between mobile and web in an unfortunate move. However, the Gemini overlay being a pill is no longer a visual mismatch.

This prompt bar redesign is not yet widely rolled out, but we’re seeing it on more and more Gemini accounts this week. Some iterations still have the Tool chips laid out side-by-side.
