Arlo launches pan/tilt tracking cameras and upgraded models that are cheaper, somehow

The market has recently blown up with smart pan/tilt cameras, and Arlo is the latest to add two new options to the mix. The new cameras cover indoor and outdoor environments with Arlo’s motion tracking tech and smart event alerts. Further, the latest generation of cameras from Arlo seems to be immune to inflation, starting at $39 for the new Essential Indoor camera.

Pan/tilt cameras have had motion detection long before a fire was lit under AI in the tech industry. Still, automatic motion tracking cameras are now moving to the consumer-side market, and companies like Eufy and Arlo are starting to release pan/tilt options that are inherently more useful and require less interaction.

Arlo’s new Essential Pan Tilt Indoor camera and Pan Tilt Security camera are the headliners of the show. Existing models have been upgraded, and those are now available, as well.

The Pan Tilt series brings automatic motion tracking and AI-powered event detection into the mix with 2K recording. Both options can detect movement and follow it, whether that’s indoors or outdoors. The indoor model lacks most, if not all, of the weather-proofing of the outdoor “security” model, but it’s also built to be mounted differently, or simply placed in a secure spot.

Arlo notes that both cameras have a 360-degree horizontal field-of-view and 180-degree tilt coverage. Detected motion activates the pan/tilt function, and the camera follows whatever person or animal comes across the path. The cameras offer night vision, but the outdoor model utilizes a dedicated spotlight to better aid in resolution during low-light conditions. The Essential Pan Tilt Security model is rated for heat, cold, rain, and sun exposure, as is expected of a camera that lives in the elements.

Both Essential Pan Tilt cameras make use of dual-band Wi-Fi, tying into whichever signal is strongest for the most reliable connection.

Some generational upgrades are hitting some of the company’s existing models. Most notably, Arlo’s prices seem to have come down significantly. The 3rd-gen Essential XL Security camera that just launched is now $79.99 at pre-order instead of the 2nd-gen price of $149. That’s a massive price decrease for a new product, though the specs seem to have improved. This could signal a change in the company’s subscription pricing model, though there looks to be no word on that.

Even the new pan/tilt options look to come in at wildly affordable price points, starting at $49 for the indoor model and $59 for the security version. We’re not sure if that’s simply the pre-order price, but if it is, that’s a massively welcome change.

All of Arlo’s new options are available for pre-order on Amazon:
