YouTube TV is going through yet another set of strained negotiations this week as its renewal with Fox is coming down to the wire, threatening to let those channels go dark as soon as August 27.
In a blog post this afternoon, YouTube says that its deal with Fox is under “ongoing negotiations” which may lead to Fox Sports, Business, and News channels going dark on August 27 if a new deal is not reached. YouTube says that Fox is “asking for payments that are far higher” than other partners with “comparable content.”
The post explains:
Our current agreement with Fox is approaching its renewal date and we are in active and ongoing negotiations to continue carrying their content. Fox is asking for payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive. Our priority is to reach a deal that reflects the value of their content and is fair for both sides without passing on additional costs to our subscribers.
We want to be transparent about these discussions: if we are unable to reach a new agreement by 5:00 PM ET on August 27, 2025, Fox channels including Fox Sports, Business, and News would become unavailable on YouTube TV. Content from these channels saved in your library would also become unavailable at this time.
Update 8/28: With the August 27 deadline now having passed, YouTube TV and Fox have reached a temporary extension as reported by Variety.
We have reached a short-term extension with Fox to prevent disruption to YouTube TV subscribers as we continue to work on a new agreement. We are committed to advocating on behalf of our subscribers as we work toward a fair deal and will keep you updated on our progress.
It’s unclear how long the extension will last but, for now, Fox channels will remain live on the platform.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of such a negotiation being stalled over costs. In February, YouTube TV nearly lost CBS and other channels from Paramount until a deal was reached in the final hours of an extension.
YouTube says that, if a deal is not reached, YouTube TV subscribers will get a $10 credit to be used towards Fox One, a separate subscription service that would provide access to the lost channels.
