Philips Hue bulbs are some of the best smart lights you can buy, but they’re also pretty pricey. Soon, it seems Philips Hue “Essential” will be added to the lineup and potentially at a much lower price point.
Hue Blog reported earlier this month that, in September, “Philips Hue Essential” bulbs will be announced as “significantly cheaper light bulbs.”
The same publication has since uncovered some imagery showing off the “Essential” brand on new Philips Hue lights that support E27 and GU10 bases. The brightness of these bulbs is roughly comparable to current-generation base-tier Hue bulbs, with the GU10 base (often used in directional lights, track lighting, etc) getting a very different design compared to existing options.
There’s no major compromise on the surface here, but one notable omission is any indicators of Google Home and/or Alexa support. But that may be a simple visual omission in these early images.
Hue Blog goes on to mention that these new, more affordable bulbs will be offered for individual sale and in “value packs” that include the original Hue bridge as opposed to the new Hue Bridge Pro that’s been leaking as of late.
Just how “cheap” these new bulbs will be remains unclear, but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on.
Philips Hue is expected to release “Essential” bulbs and other new products in early September.
