Google’s Pixel Watch 4 is finally official, and while wearable fans might feel stressed about its October launch date, those hardware improvements seem well worth it. But with a new charging dock comes the need for additional chargers, and depending on what you want to buy for your next smartwatch, you should probably start saving up.
In case you missed it, the Pixel Watch 4 swaps to a new dock-like charger, abandoning the rear-facing pins for a pair located along the side of the device. It makes for an excellent little bedside experience, but simultaneously, it means your previous chargers — the magnetic first-gen puck or the second and third-gen pin-based puck — will no longer work. Thankfully, Google has additional docks that you can pick up for $30, the same price as replacement charging pucks from earlier models.
Unfortunately, it won’t arrive until after the Pixel Watch 4 starts shipping; the estimate I’m seeing currently points to an October 14th delivery date. The charger dock is also available at Best Buy, though only with a “Coming soon” tag.
As for bands, the good news is that every Pixel Watch band is compatible with every generation of watch, meaning upgraders can keep their current collection with their next device. Google’s new Gradient Stretch Bands, complete with fresh colors inspired by the last couple of generations of smartphones, will run you $60, as will the new “Rainbow”-colored Woven Band. Previous straps, including the Performance Loop Band, Active Sport Band, and Crafted Leather Band, are all available at their previous prices.
