In case you never turned song transitions off in Spotify, the streaming service is adding custom options for playlists.
Song transitions can get annoying when they’re identical for each song and when they cut tracks off at the wrong time. Many users end up turning that feature off in Spotify’s settings, but it looks like it might get a revival.
According to Spotify, new custom and automatic transitions are coming to playlists in the app. In any created playlist, users will be able to select a new “Mix” option to add automatic transitions between each track. The option is then open to add custom transitions.
Spotify notes that transition presets will be available, and waveform information can be used to find the right spot for each switch. Each song can have an individual type of transition, depending on what the user dictates. Beats per minute and keys will appear for each track in the app.
The mix option can be toggled on and off, and a stylized play button will be shown when the feature is enabled.
It doesn’t appear that turning off song transitions by default in the Spotify app will affect the new feature, which might appeal to some users who don’t want to hear the same fade over and over in their playlists. The new option will allow for playlists to be further customized for most use cases.
The feature will only be available for Premium members, which still sits at $11.99/month for individual users in the US, while Spotify Premium prices have gone up in essentially every other region. The feature is “rolling out” now in a new update to the app.
