Pixelsnap is Google’s long overdue answer to MagSafe starting with Pixel 10

One of the biggest new additions to the recently announced Pixel 10 series is the Qi2-powered “Pixelsnap” functionality.

Essentially, this is Google’s spin on MagSafe that incorporates Qi2 and the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). This standard adds a ring of magnets inside the Pixel 10 so that accessories like power banks, chargers, and cases can attach directly to the device’s backplate.

When aligned correctly, you can charge your device, but like on an iPhone, there could be some software-based bonuses as the technology progresses. However, at launch, functionality is limited to adding a photo slideshow when placing a Pixel 10 series device in landscape with the Pixelsnap stand. In practice, this is the same as doing so with Apple’s premier smartphone. The magnetic attachment is sturdy and feels almost identical in our brief testing with all of the Pixel 10 lineup.

The first selection of PixelSnap accessories is relatively small. It consists of a $39.99 dedicated charging “puck” that is capable of charging the Pixel 10 Pro at up to 25W when attached, as well as a $69.99 base stand that allows you to place or remove the included charging puck. While not outright confirmed, this feels very much like the spiritual successor to the Pixel Stand, which was last updated in 2021. You can even use the stand with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold when open, as the base is sturdy enough to support it.

Cases start at $49.99 for the Pixel 10 series, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold case with Pixelsnap connectivity will cost $69.99. The Pixelsnap Ring Stand is perhaps the most impressive new addition. This feels like an homage to the Pixel Tablet ring stand case, with a large “G” logo and color-appropriate finish to pair with your chosen device. It lets you stand up your phone for easier viewing and, although steep at $29.99, still looks like a great first-party accessory.
