Samsung starts rolling out Gemini for Galaxy Buds 3, but only with Android 16

After announcing it earlier this year, Samsung has started rolling out Gemini support for its Galaxy Buds 3 lineup, but you can only access it while running One UI 8 based on Android 16.

Gemini was a key feature of Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2, but it was inevitable that other earbuds would eventually add the same support. Earlier this year, Samsung announced that it would add Gemini to Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, while Google also confirmed that Sony earbuds would also get access.

That is now starting to roll out.

With recent updates to Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro, you might find a new “Set up Google digital assistant” option under the “Voice controls” section of Samsung’s app. This allows you to set up Gemini integration on Galaxy Buds 3, as SamMobile shows in the screenshots below.

However, there are two caveats here. Firstly, this seems to require Android 16, i.e. Samsung’s One UI 8 update. Currently, this update is only available in beta on the Galaxy S25 series – though it is soon to expand – as well as being installed out of the box on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. That said, the other issue here is that the rollout seems a bit wonky.

We first caught word of this update in late July, but despite frequently checking out Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro – and updating everything – the Gemini integration is still missing. It’s great to see this functionality is finally on its way, just keep in mind that your results may vary.
