Android devices are not what they used to be. Eventually, they caught up to one particular fruit-themed OEM and then surpassed it in many ways. Still, habit is hard to break for some, and it seems like the overarching stigma is that Android phones are weak, susceptible, and terribly designed. At least, that’s what some are being told when buying an Android phone.
According to one user on Reddit, a trip to the AT&T store was supposed to end in an upgrade and buying an Android phone – the Galaxy Z Fold 7, specifically. Being an expensive device, one would think that the store rep would be all too happy to let that happen. The user noted that the AT&T rep actually tried talking them out of the device, making some bold claims.
Reportedly, they were told that Android devices had SIM issues and were infected with viruses daily because they were “insecure.” The rep also apparently told the customer that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 would be bricked, inevitably.
These claims are false, and Samsung is known for its constant security updates, so long as you’re looking at some of the more premium devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is not likely to be known for any of the above issues, and neither are most of Samsung’s or Google’s phones. That being said, buying an Android phone is not a bad call.
Instead, the customer was told to wait for the iPhone 17 – a device that isn’t even on the shelves yet, meaning no potential commission can be made for the in-store rep. It’s a play that doesn’t quite make sense unless the service rep needed the customer out so they could close up shop. The rep even noted that the upgrade couldn’t be completed because the store was closing soon.
This isn’t a new story. It’s one we’ve heard a number of times. Users who are committed to one device, and have been for years, remember and recall Android being behind or problematic. That isn’t the case now, nor has it been for quite a while, and the Galaxy S series and Google Pixel series consistently see users switching from iPhone simply because Android has improved tremendously. Still, some have been told when buying an Android device that there are massive flaws with the OS, completely disregarding the individual advancements companies have made.

Here's my proclamation about me staying true to Android and the Pixel line of phones rather than jumping over to iOS and Apple. I like what I have within the Google ecosystem for Android and I won't allow anyone to try to change my mind about something that I already have or are deciding not to have. So that being said, I've been an Android user and I will continue to be an Android user until they stop making it and that's hopefully never 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
We’re at a point where Apple software and hardware offer very little more, unless you’re tied to the ecosystem.
So has that happened to you? Has a sales rep or someone ever told you that Android devices are inferior and made boldly false claims to prevent you from purchasing a device? They have their problems, depending on the manufacturer, but to make an umbrella claim is wild.
If you answer yes, hit the comments section and let us know how/why. We’re sure there are more stories out there!
Further, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are out of their respective pre-order periods, but Samsung is still offering trade-in deals for each device. You can check them out here.
