Xiaomi officially launches its first Google TV streaming stick, but the specs don’t impress

After surfacing for sale recently, Xiaomi has finally, quietly taken the wraps off of the Xiaomi TV Stick (2nd Gen), its first streaming stick with Google TV support.

Early this month, we reported on a new Xiaomi TV Stick with Google TV that had appeared on Aliexpress without an official announcement or other details. As of this week, Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi TV Stick (2nd Gen) as its first Google TV streaming stick.

This device, as suggested by the earlier retail listing, has a compact form factor that plugs into an HDMI device and is powered by USB. It supports 4K output with Dolby Vision and HDR10+, as well as supporting Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound. An updated chipset is 80% faster for general usage, while Wi-Fi 6 support should ensure better streaming.

The rest of the under-the-hood specs are pretty underwhelming, though, with just 8GB of storage on board and just 2GB of RAM. You’ll get more from Walmart’s $30 Onn 4K Plus.

But, for Xiaomi, the biggest upgrade here is that this is the brand’s first streaming stick with Google TV. The updated experience is better with recommendations and has been Google’s go-to for the past few years, with new features like Home support coming to Google TV rather than Android TV.

Xiaomi TV Stick (2nd Gen) does not appear to be coming to the US market, but it should now be for sale in select global markets. It remains on Aliexpress with global shipping for around $65~.

Thanks Alex!
