Waze says it will combine different types of road alerts ‘in the near future’

The big appeal of Waze is the crowdsourcing of reports of road incidents such as traffic, objects on the road, and, of course, speed traps. It’s often possible for multiple Waze reports to show up in the same location, though, and Waze is now set to start combining those into a single alert.

As it stands today, Waze may show just one, or multiple types of alerts in a single location. For instance, if there’s traffic you might get see an alert for a slowdown, another for a crash, and perhaps another for debris on the road. But when driving up, you might only be able to see or get an audible message regarding one of those at a time.

Through the “Waze Suggestion Box,” one user requested that these alerts are combined together, specifically in regards to the audible message. So, in our example above, you might get an audible message that says “Crash, slowdown, and object in road reported ahead” or similar.

Waze recently acknowledged this suggestion, with a member of the Waze Team confirming plans to implement combined alerts “in the near future.”

We plan to work on merging two or more alerts in the near future. In the meantime, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Waze for all the latest features.

This was mentioned back in May of this year, so it could go live pretty soon. So far as we can tell, though, it’s not live just yet. It’d also be nice to see the same change in Google Maps.
